An assistive system that makes classroom speech both audible and readable for students with hearing loss. Winner of the iF Design Student Award 2026.
In class, speech moves quickly, overlaps and shifts between speakers. Missing small parts accumulates into gaps in understanding, reducing participation and weakening a student’s sense of presence among peers.
Hera consists of a microphone and a compact hub. The hub connects directly to hearing aids over Bluetooth. Alongside clearer audio, its screen shows a live transcript running in parallel with the conversation — the information is both heard and seen.
During lectures the teacher wears the microphone. In group settings it sits at the centre of the table and different speakers are separated by colour in the transcript. A missed passage can be scrolled back without interrupting the class, and transcripts can be saved for later review.
